2015-16 A/W Mens Sportswear Fashion Show
SPORTSWEAR
Sportswear is no longer a new trend in menswear but its influence is far from exhausted as designers continue to explore it’s numerous possibilities. This season it was classic sportswear shapes, sweatpants and hoodies, transferred to soft luxurious fabrics or chunky knitwear that dominated and were beautifully executed at Joseph. Sweat pants, paired with blazers for a relaxed, tailored-casual look, were the key outfit for this trend.
The flipside of this trend was that the sportswear brands themselves, Yohji Yamamoto at Y-3 and Kayne Wests at Adidas, turned traditional sportswear on its head with inspired apocalyptic, military inspired stories.
In many of the menswear shows there was a strong trend for reduction in detail, down to the bare minimum, where simple functional shapes and sportswear’s innate minimalistic approach were definitely a strong influence.
With so many different aspects and elements to chose from, sportswear as a genre looks set to continue as a goldmine of inspiration, for some time to come.
